Course Description:

RATIONALE

The objective of this module is to give students the opportunity to develop, implement, and write up an independent project in an area of their choice. Students will conduct independent research and learn legal research methods during this course. Their legal project will also involve a critical evaluation of the law and the application of appropriate research methods to make conclusions based on research and literature.

AIMS

The overarching aims of the module are as follows:

1.    Identify the objectives and aims of the project according to the legal area
2.    Understand what the LLB degree entails
3.    Demonstrate research, writing, planning and critical analysis skills.
4.    Identify areas of interest, develop, execute, and document areas of an extended legal project independently.
5.    Analyze primary and secondary sources with relevant methodologies. 
Students will engage with the materials through formative assessments, online activities and a live session. They will also have the opportunity to develop and propose their own ideas and to critically analyze and evaluate a specific area of law. 


LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
1.    Identify and utilize appropriate research methods
2.    Explore an area of law  and reach appropriate conclusions
3.    Produce a coherent legal dissertation, which is written and presented in accordance with relevant academic conventions.
